Lake Placid Resident Athletes
Each year, the Lake Placid Olympic & Paralympic Training Center welcomes approximately 50 resident-athletes who live and train in the area. These athletes are part of a unique program designed to support their growth, performance, and well-being, while giving visitors a glimpse into the life of an elite competitor.
Three National Governing Bodies—USABS, US Biathlon, and USA Luge—currently operate year-long resident programs. Traditionally, athletes stay in town throughout the summer to train during the off-season, and then leave for tour—the winter season—from November through March. Athletes may live within the Training Center itself or in nearby apartments and homes throughout the community. Wherever they live, their daily routines revolve around rigorous training, proper nutrition, rest, and recovery—all essential elements for competing at the highest levels.
Within the Training Center, several departments provide a variety of development opportunities, ranging from higher education support to tax assistance, cooking classes, and more, helping athletes grow both personally and professionally.
Resident-athletes also enjoy building community and celebrating traditions. Some of their favorites include weekly trivia battles, Lake Placid’s annual Fourth of July parade, beach volleyball, and other local events and activities. Outside the Training Center, you might spot them exploring the lakes and mountains, enjoying the outdoors, or participating in community events. Many balance training with work or volunteer opportunities in town, deepening their connection to the area and its residents.
The Resident Athlete Program not only fosters the development of future Olympians and Paralympians, but also allows visitors to experience the energy, dedication, and passion of Team USA up close. Whether you see them in training or around town, these athletes are a living part of Lake Placid’s Olympic legacy.
