Media accreditation process open for LA28 Olympic Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee today opened requests for U.S. media accreditation to the LA 2028 Olympic Games. Applications for written press and photographer credentials, as well as details on the process for non-Media Rights-Holding (ENR) organizations, can be found below. 

U.S. press organizations must apply for accreditation via the request portal by Oct. 23, 2026 to be considered for the initial allocation.

You will receive a confirmation email after submitting your application. Please keep that email for your records. We expect to share allocation results in early 2027. If you would like to verify that your application was received, please email: Accreditation@usopc.org.  

The accreditation process for the LA28 Paralympic Games will begin March 2027. 

New International Olympic Committee Portal 

For the LA28 Olympic Games, U.S. media organizations seeking press accreditation must submit an expression of interest through the new LA28 Press Accreditation Registration Portal linked above. The portal will serve as the first step in the press accreditation process for written press, photographers and non-rights-holding television and radio broadcasters.  

Due to LA28 being a home Games and the limited number of available press credentials, we expect a very high volume of credential requests from U.S. media organizations. Submission of a request does not guarantee accreditation. 

Accreditation Process for the Olympic Games 

This first phase of the accreditation process, known as Press by Number, allows U.S. media organizations to request the number and types of credentials they are seeking. Once all requests have been received and allocations distributed, Press by Name will begin in late 2027, when organizations will assign their allocated credentials to individual media members. 

The USOPC will have access to Press by Number applications submitted by U.S. media organizations and will be responsible for reviewing expressions of interest and allocating its available press accreditation quota in accordance with IOC Press Accreditation Principles and Criteria. 

Submitting an expression of interest through the portal does not guarantee accreditation.  Following the submission period and receipt of the U.S. press accreditation quota from the IOC, the USOPC will determine allocations to U.S. media organizations that submitted through the portal. 

1. Written Press, Photographers and Support Personnel:

• E – Journalist: Written press with access to all competition venues, mixed zones and the Main Press Center (MPC), including press seating. No video recording is permitted.
• Es – Sport-Specific Journalist: Written press covering a specific sport, with access to that sport’s venues, mixed zones and the MPC. No video recording is permitted.
• EP – Photographer: Photographers with access to all competition venues and the MPC, including designated photo positions. No video recording is permitted.
• EPs – Sport-Specific Photographer: Photographers covering a specific sport, with access to that sport’s venues, the MPC and designated photo positions. No video recording is permitted.
• ET – Technician: Technical support personnel for accredited media, with venue and MPC access as required for their work. No general press seating.
• Ec – MPC Support Staff: Media organization support personnel working at the MPC. Access is limited to the MPC only.
• ENR – Non-Rights-Holding Broadcaster: Television and radio organizations that do not hold Games broadcast rights. Venue access is subject to non-rights-holder restrictions.

1. Written and Photo – E, EP, EC, ET, Es, EPs accreditation  
Please note that any requests submitted after Dec. 23, 2026, will not be eligible for first round allocation, and will be added to a waitlist. 
 
The USOPC receives a limited number of accreditations from the International Olympic Committee and International Paralympic Committee for allocation to U.S. media outlets. 
The process is open to: 

• Daily or weekly newspapers 

• National news or sports magazines 

• Web-based organizations with staff members providing original content 

• Photographic media organizations with established magazine, newspaper and web-based clientele 

• Freelancers with confirmed assignments 

All requesting organizations must be based in the United States and meet the guideline standards included on the registration site. 

2. Non-Media Rights-Holders – ENR accreditation 
If you are a non-MRH organization interested in covering the LA28 Olympic Games, please read the following information carefully, as the process for non-MRH accreditation has changed since Paris 2024. 

For LA28, U.S.-based non-MRH television and radio organizations seeking ENR accreditation must submit their request through the USOPC. The USOPC will evaluate applications and submit a prioritized list to the IOC, which will make the final determination on ENR allocations based on the available quota. ENR outlets should request using the linked LA28 Press Accreditation Registration Portal above. 

ENR accreditation is limited to non-MRH television and radio organizations. Independent filmmakers, documentary producers, production companies, and content creators are not eligible for ENR accreditation. 

ENR-accredited media may not bring professional video equipment into Olympic competition venues to film, record or broadcast from within those venues. Professional video equipment is permitted at the Main Press Center, where ENR-accredited organizations may record and broadcast press conferences in accordance with the IOC Television and Radio News Access Rules. 

Organizations approved for ENR accreditation will be required to accept and sign the Television and Radio News Access Rules before accreditation is granted. 

The application window for U.S.-based non-MRH organizations is Aug. 31-Oct. 23, 2026. No late requests will be considered. To submit an accreditation request for the LA28 Olympic Games, visit the LA28 Press Accreditation Registration Portal linked above. 

The NOCs will be notified of the IOC’s decision for non-MRH by early 2027.
