COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee has announced updates to the composition of its Board of Directors following the 2026 U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Assembly held in Colorado Springs last week.

Aron McGuire, CEO of USA Bobsled and Skeleton and vice chair of the National Governing Bodies Council, has been elected by the NGBC as its representative to the USOPC board. McGuire will succeed Rich Bender as an NGBC-elected director and begin a four-year term. Bender leaves the board after fulfilling the maximum of two successive terms.

McGuire will join Virginia Sung (USA Table Tennis), who was retained for a second term through an NGB Council vote earlier this summer, and Dexter Paine (U.S. Ski & Snowboard), who is serving through 2028, as the NGB Council representatives. McGuire’s first term and Sung’s second term will begin Jan. 1, 2027.

The Team USA Athletes’ Commission also retained Adam Nelson in his role as an at-large, athlete-elected director. Nelson has served in the role for one year, fulfilling the remaining term of a previous representative. He will now begin his first full four-year term.

“On behalf of the USOPC Board of Directors, I’m pleased to welcome Aron onto the board representing the National Governing Bodies and happy to note that Adam will continue in his role as an athlete-elected director,” said Gene Sykes, chair of the USOPC Board of Directors. “The voices of the athletes and NGBs are essential, and their representatives help ensure that the decisions we make as an organization are grounded in the realities of sport and in the experiences of the communities we serve.”

Elections for the athlete representative roles to succeed Elana Meyers Taylor and Brad Snyder will take place later this year. Snyder is now a USOPC board member by virtue of his election to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board. Meyers Taylor informed the AC that she will not seek a second term.

“I want to thank Rich and Elana for their service as they leave the board, said Sykes. “Rich brought decades of NGB leadership and great understanding of what our member organizations need to thrive. Elana, one of the most accomplished athletes in Team USA history, has been a steadfast advocate for athletes and an important voice in our boardroom. We are deeply grateful for their time, their insight and their dedication to the Olympic and Paralympic movement, and we look forward to continuing collaboration with both.”

The USOPC Board of Directors includes three representatives each from the Team USA Athletes’ Commission and National Governing Bodies Council (NGBC), two at-large athlete seats, five independent board members, American members of the IOC and members of the IPC Governing Board.

Sarah Hirshland, USOPC CEO, serves as a nonvoting member of the board.

The Board Nominating and Governance Committee is currently running a search to fill one open USOPC independent director seat.
