Statement Regarding Executive Order "Saving College Sports"

Share:

Team USA Athletes’ Commission strongly supports efforts of the recent Executive Order regarding the future of intercollegiate athletes to protect and preserve broad-based sports opportunities within intercollegiate athletics. College sports play a critical role in developing future Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and it is essential that any new system continues to provide equitable opportunities for both men and women across a wide range of sports. The introduction of revenue-sharing and Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) to college sports is welcomed, but should not come at the cost of a loss of opportunities for athletes.

What remains missing in the creation of this new system is the most essential element: the athlete perspective, athletes must be included as equal stakeholders in shaping the future of college sports and treated as partners in the business of sport not just participates. Team USA AC remains committed to advancing policies that promote fairness, sustainability, and opportunity for all athletes, and we encourage the athletes’ voice to be heard in the ongoing discussions. We look forward to working with federal officials on a long-lasting solution that will uplift all intercollegiate athletic programs and athletes.
