2025 Media Summit: Women's Ice Hockey

QUALIFICATION

The U.S. Olympic Women's Hockey Team Player Pool, a group of 30 players, was named in late August, with that group training together at different week-long intervals from August through December. Through evaluation during those training blocks, the four-game Rivalry Series against Canada (taking place in Cleveland - Nov. 6, Buffalo - Nov. 8 and Edmonton - Dec. 10 & 13), professional/collegiate seasons and previous international tournaments, the final roster of 23 will be selected from the pool by team staff in early January.

PREVIEW

The U.S. Olympic Women’s ice hockey team has medaled at every Olympic Winter Games since the sport was introduced at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games, winning two golds (2018,1998), four silvers (2002, 2010, 2014, 2022) and one bronze (2006). The team enters 2026 focused on winning Team USA's third all-time gold medal after taking home silver in 2022, following a hard fought 3-2 loss to Canada.

In the years since the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, the U.S. Women’s National Team has continued its success on the ice, winning the 2023 and 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship, before taking silver at the 2022, 2024 iterations of the tournament. Most recently, the U.S. went undefeated at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Ceske Budejovice, Czechia, with a 6-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record, ultimately defeating Canada, 4-3, in dramatic overtime fashion to take home gold.

Fans can look forward to watching some of the most prolific hockey players in both Team USA and Olympic history, with forward Hilary Knight looking to make her record fifth Olympic team, while Kendall Coyne Schofield and Lee Stecklein look to return to the world stage for their fourth Games. Stars of the 2022 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team, Caroline Harvey and Abbey Murphy, will bring an infusion of youth, while exciting talent like Taylor Heise, Laila Edwards, Tessa Janecke and Aerin Frankel hope to make their Olympic debuts.
