Calling on Congress to fund the Commission on the State of the U.S. Olympics & Paralympics
by USOPC Athletes' Advisory Council
The United States Olympic & Paralympic Athletes’ Advisory Council unequivocally supports the request to Congress for the immediate and necessary funding of the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics, as recently submitted by the co-chairs of the Commission. The heart-wrenching, courageous and powerful testimony at a Sept. 15th Congressional hearing from Team USA gymnasts Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols and Aly Raisman regarding FBI conduct in the Larry Nassar investigation, made quite clear that while Congress has implemented reforms in recent years, the tragedy of sexual abuse in sport has not fully been addressed and more must be done. Therefore, we call on Congress to immediately fund the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics, so our athletes’ safety and well-being are protected in the future.
