COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee today announced the 2023 U.S. Pan American Team that will compete at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 from Oct. 20-Nov. 5 in Santiago, Chile. The U.S. roster, totaling 628 athletes, is comprised of 315 women and 313 men, includes 92 Olympians and 31 Olympic medalists."I am thrilled to welcome these incredible athletes to Team USA for the 2023 Panamerican Games," said USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland. "Not only do these Games bring our region together to celebrate sport, but they also provide a vital pathway for many athletes to qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The USOPC and our partner federations extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the organizers at Santiago 2023 and Panam Sports for graciously hosting Team USA and organizing a remarkable event."The Pan American and Parapan American Games are the largest multi-sport event in the Americas. The Games are held every four years and precede the Olympic and Paralympic Games by one year. Chile will serve as the host country for the first time in its history.During the 17-day competition, Team USA will be represented in 43 of 46 sports, excluding 5x5 basketball, baseball and indoor volleyball.

The 2023 U.S. Pan American squad includes 13 Olympic champions. Five members of the gold-medal winning women’s water polo team at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will compete in Santiago: Maggie Steffens, Ashleigh Johnson, Kaleigh Gilchrist, Rachel Fattal and Amanda Longan. Additional reigning Olympic champions from Tokyo 2020 include Lee Kiefer (fencing), Vincent Hancock (shooting) and Brooks Curry (swimming). Four additional athletes hold Olympic gold medals prior to 2020, including Helen Maroulis and Kyle Snyder (wrestling), and Laura Kraut and McClain Ward (equestrian).

The team also boasts more than 90 returning Pan American medalists from the 2019 edition in Lima, Peru, including over 40 Pan American Games gold medalists.
Team USA athletes will be seeking Olympic Games direct qualification in nine sports, including breaking, boxing, gymnastics (rhythmic, trampoline), sport climbing, field hockey (men’s and women’s), modern pentathlon, artistic swimming, team handball and water polo (men’s and women’s). In addition, athletes competing in archery, diving, equestrian jumping, table tennis, sailing and shooting can secure Olympic quotas. Athletes in badminton, 3x3 basketball, cycling, taekwondo and triathlon can receive ranking points and be considered for seeding criteria toward qualification, while track and field athletes and swimmers can earn minimum qualification standards for U.S. Olympic Team Trials.Pan Am Sports will broadcast more than 1,900 hours of coverage at

The youngest and oldest members on the team are 15-year-old skateboarder Paige Heyn (Jan. 20, 2008) and 57-year-old equestrian athlete Laura Kraut (Nov. 14, 1965).
There is one five-time Olympian on the team (McClain Ward, equestrian), and three four-time Olympians on the team (Vincent Hancock, shooting; Brady Ellison, archery; Gerek Meinhardt, fencing)
Nicole Ahsinger (gymnastics) and Lily Zhang (table tennis) competed for Team USA at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, and Summer Youth Olympic Games Nanjing 2014.
Twenty-four athletes have military ties – including 20 with Army, three with Air Force and one with the Marine Corps. USA Shooting has the most representation, featuring 11 athletes with military ties.
Thirty-seven athletes identify as parents, including 26 fathers and 11 moms.
