U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Celebrates a Landmark Year with the Release of its 2024 Impact Report
by USOPC
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO — The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) released its 2024 Impact Report today, highlighting a transformative year defined by historic athletic performances, unprecedented fan engagement and record-breaking donor support.
"The magic and energy of 2024 truly reignited the spark of the Olympic and Paralympic movements – highlighted by Team USA shining on the world stage at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024," said USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland. "2024 reminded us why sport matters – not just on the podium, but in every story of triumph, resilience and unity. We saw our community of supporters come together in new and impactful ways, and we couldn’t do it without them."
2024 also marked the start of the transformational Decade of Sport. Over the next 10 years, the United States will welcome the world for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles and the 2034 Winter Games in Salt Lake City-Utah, fueling national pride, expanding opportunity and leaving a legacy that extends far beyond the podium. Sparked by the achievements of 2024 – including at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games – this new era is defined not just by performance, but by advancing excellence in sport at every level and field, across the USOPC’s three focus areas:
Athlete Excellence: The USOPC’s commitment to supporting athletes holistically was front and center in 2024, ensuring Team USA could perform at their best on and off the field of play. Key milestones included:
- The USOPC supported 835 athletes who represented Team USA for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- In Paris, Team USA won 126 Olympic medals – its best Olympic performance at a non-home Games and the most medals won since 1984 – and 105 Paralympic medals, securing a third-place finish in the medal standings.
- The USOPC expanded existing initiatives and launched several new ones to support athletes, including a partnership with Guild to provide education and career opportunities, and the Team USA Family Fund to assist athletes navigating the dual challenges of elite competition and early parenthood. Based on a post-games survey of 200 Team USA athletes, the majority said they had a positive Games experience and valued the resources the USOPC provided.
Sport Advancement: From the training center to the global stage, the USOPC reinforced its dedication to athlete safety and fairness, shaping the future of sport and expanding opportunity at every level. A few highlights:
- Completing the integration of three major Para sport programs, including Track & Field, Powerlifting and Ski & Snowboard.
- Launching a unified resource allocation process to better align and streamline NGB funding – with $78 million provided in direct support to NGBs in 2024.
- Awarded 11 gold medals to Team USA figure skaters and track and field athletes at a formal ceremony in Paris after a years-long wait, honoring these athletes’ performances and with it, the integrity of sport.
Community Growth: The USOPC and its community raised the bar on what it means to support Team USA, leading to a record year for fandom and fundraising, and underscoring the unifying power of sport. Some key achievements were:
- Achieving record fan engagement with 30.6 million and 1.2 million million average daily viewers of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, respectively, and a 41% increase in fan engagement compared with the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
- $85 million raised by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation – a record-setting fundraising year – alongside the launch of its new One for All public campaign.
- Securing the bid to host the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
