Team River Runner logo

Team River Runner - Southeast PA

Established in 2004 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, TRR is a non-profit, all-volunteer national organization that works in conjunction with Disabled Sports USA to help military personnel recover from war-related injuries through whitewater kayaking. TRR currently has over forty chapters. TRR provides health and healing for military injured, active duty and veterans through whitewater therapeutic kayaking and other forms of adventure paddling. What we do is physically demanding and socially supportive. We start off learning the basics in a calm river or heated, indoor pool. From there, we head out to creeks, streams and rivers for group paddling trips. We adapt instruction and gear to individual injuries and challenges with a goal of forming a supportive community that enjoys sharing knowledge of paddling skills.

Team River Runner logo

Team River Runner Coatesville

Team River Runner (TRR), established in August 2004 by kayakers in the Washington, DC area, is a primarily volunteer non-profit organization run by a council of kayakers and overseen by a board of directors. TRR was initially established to help active duty military personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan who were recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. With the success there obvious and the opportunity elsewhere apparent, TRR expanded to other Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) chapter sites in 2007. TRR envisions a national network which creates innovative paddling programs designed to assist with the recovery of those injured while serving our country. Through paddle sports, TRR volunteers and partners provide local communities unique opportunities for the active, safe and positive support of healing service members and their families.
