Team USA's Collegiate Footprint #

Collegiate athletes contributed to Team USA’s historic performance at the Olympic Games Rio 2016. Nearly 80 percent of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team – and nearly 85 percent of Team USA medalists – had collegiate ties.

How Are College Ties Defined? #

  • Student-athlete: Any individual on Team USA who is/was a member of a collegiate roster (varsity/club/other) and/or competed in outside competition for a university or college.
  • Collegiate attendance: Any individual who enrolled in an institution to complete academic coursework.
