  • IPC Athletes' Council Candidate

    Nominations are being sought for the International Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Council (IPC AC) to be voted upon by athletes at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Paralympic Games. The IPC AC serves as the collective voice of Paralympic athletes within the IPC and the greater Paralympic Movement. Its role is to provide feedback, advice, and reporting to the IPC Governing Board from the athletes’ perspective, represent the interests of Paralympic athletes worldwide, and actively engage with the athlete community. The U.S. is looking to put forward one candidate for election.


    Eligibility Requirements:

    Per the IPC Athletes’ Council Terms of Reference, candidates must:

    • Be competing at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Paralympic Games, OR
    • Have competed in at least one of the previous two editions of the Winter Paralympic Games (Pyeongchang 2018 or Beijing 2022).

    Time Commitment:

    Elected members should be prepared to commit significant time to fulfill their responsibilities, including:

    • Attendance at one annual IPC Athletes’ Council meeting (usually in Bonn, Germany), plus regular conference calls and additional remote sessions as convened.
    • Engagement in major events such as the IPC Athletes’ Forum (biennial), IPC General
    • Assembly, and other gatherings relevant to the global athlete community.
    • Ongoing involvement between meetings, including reviewing materials, providing feedback, and actively engaging with athlete-related issues.
    • Elected members will be ex-officio members of the USOPC Board of Directors (About 4 meetings per year and committee responsibilities) and Team USA Athletes’ Commission meetings (virtual and in-person, typically 2 per year).

    • Applicants will be interviewed by Team USA AC Nominations and Governance Committee the week of Sept 29-October 3
    • Qualified candidates will be presented to Team USA AC for a vote
    • The endorsed U.S. candidate will be submitted to the IPC by October 31, 2024

    USOPC Women's Health Taskforce

    As part of the USOPC Women’s Health Initiative the USOPC has created a Women’s Health Task Force. Part of the motivations for creating this taskforce was to ensure we capture the athlete voice around women’s health-related topics. . The group works on developing resources and education on a variety of topics including: Trauma/Abuse/ACE, Menses, Fertility, Prenatal/Pregnancy/Postnatal, Pelvic Pain/Dysfunction, Hormones, REDS, Equipment (Sport bras, shoes), Nutrition, Training Guidelines and Sexuality. The group is looking for one additional athlete to join the task force.

    Requirements:

    • 10-year athlete
    • Preferably a summer female para athlete

    Preferred Skills:

    • Strong reading comprehension skills
    • Detail oriented
    • Interest in the medical field.
    • Obtained or working towards a degree in the medical field.Including but not limited to (Medical, Nursing, Dental, Physical Therapy, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology)

    Time Commitment:

    One hour-long meeting once a month and then some subcommittee meetings based around projects which could be an additional 1-2 hours/month.

  • USOPC Dispute Resolution Unit (DRU) Athlete Panel Members

    The Ethics & Compliance (E&C) team and the Dispute Resolution Unit (DRU) are working together to improve the dispute resolution system within the Olympic and Paralympic Movement. As part of these efforts, we are seeking to identify a pool of eligible USOPC 10 Year Athletes who are interested in serving as panel members in cases that will be adjudicated through this updated process.


    E&C and DRU are looking for USOPC 10 Year athletes who can meet the time commitment and requirements detailed below to join a pool of Athlete Representatives who are willing to serve as panel members for disputes across NGBs.

    Time Commitment

    • Able to attend quarterly meetings to discuss developments in sports law and to receive helpful information for their role as a panel member
    • Able to participate in 1- 2 hearings a year (each of which may be several hours long)
    • If selected as a Panel Member for a case, able to spend about 1 hour per week for a few months on various administrative issues (attending meetings and preliminary hearings, ruling on motions, answering emails, reading submissions, etc.)

    Requirements

    • Meet the USOPC 10 Year Athlete Definition
    • Have an interest in law or pursuing a legal career (existing lawyers, law students, and those interested in the law are strongly encouraged)
