USOPA praises new poll showing overwhelming public support for Team USA participation in 2022 Olympic Games

by USOPC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympians & Paralympians Association (USOPA) – representing Team USA Olympic and Paralympic alumni athletes – today praised a recent poll from Morning Consult that showed overwhelming American support for Team USA athlete participation in the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing.

The poll, which surveyed 2,200 adults in the U.S., found that roughly two-thirds of Americans do not support an athlete boycott of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The poll showed consistent support of Team USA across geographies, ages, and political affiliations.

“For some time, we’ve known that Americans want their athletes to attend the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing and compete against the best in the world,” said Willie Banks, three-time Olympian and member of the USOPA Executive Committee. “This poll confirms that Americans are proud of the perseverance and dedication demonstrated by Team USA athletes, particularly after a difficult training year. We look forward to seeing our athletes live out their dreams of competing and cheering them on in the Olympic and Paralympic contests ahead.”

The United States Olympians and Paralympians Association (USOPA) aims to build a comprehensive national association of Olympians and Paralympians. In furtherance of this goal, the organization facilitates the formation of local chapters; helps members promote Olympic and Paralympic values in their communities; and encourages members to stay engaged in the Olympic and Paralympic movements.
