Keith Gabel: Building a Community Through Winter Sports
Paralympic snowboarder Keith Gabel knows firsthand how sport can change a life. Through his work with the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club (AVSC), he’s helping ensure that every child in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley has the same chance to discover that power, no matter their financial circumstances.
Founded in 1937, AVSC is the oldest and largest youth nonprofit in the area, dedicated to helping kids excel as both athletes and individuals through winter sports. The club provides access to elite coaching, world-class facilities and a supportive community that fosters “mountain culture.” By opening the slopes to all, AVSC helps young athletes develop confidence in their skills and a lifelong love of the outdoors.
Keith has been an extraordinary ambassador for snowboarding and for Paralympic sport. His leadership and compassion inspire not only our athletes but also the next generation of young people discovering their love for winter sport. We are proud to see him honored as a 2025 Team USA Community Champion.
Keith’s leadership and commitment to empowering others have earned him recognition as one of this year’s Team USA Community Champions in partnership with Comcast.
Each year, Team USA Community Champions in partnership with Comcast honors athletes who advocate for nonprofit causes in health, wellness or youth sports. The initiative awards four $25,000 grants — half to the athlete’s nonprofit and half to the athlete — helping these changemakers expand their impact in the communities they serve.
