Following an unprecedented two years, 2022 marked the beginning of a new era for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
Team USA athletes, alongside the USOPC and our community, were able to come together once again – both on and off the field of play – to celebrate everything we have achieved as we progress our mission: Empower Team USA athletes to achieve sustained competitive excellence and well-being.
We proudly embraced our role as conveners – from bringing together athletes across all sports and seasons for the first time ever during Team USA Week, to gathering voices to reach a consensus on issues facing our organization and the world, including geopolitical tensions prompted by the Russia-Ukraine war and sensitivities concerning Beijing hosting the Winter Games. We also worked with the international community to ensure fairness and inclusion were upheld as we navigated important topics like ongoing doping allegations.
In the process, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic community – USOPC leaders and team members, National Governing Bodies, athletes and our partners – advanced action across athlete excellence, sport advancement and community growth. Together, significant progress was made to further ensure athletes’ safety and well-being, protecting both their rights and their responsibilities while championing fairness and inclusion at home and on the global stage.
Our efforts proved to be impactful across the athlete journey, including inspirational performances spanning the Olympic and Paralympic Games Beijing 2022. Though the Winter Games were set amid high COVID-19 rates and featured highly restrictive competitive environments, resolute Team USA athletes brought home a total of 45 medals and impressed the world with an unyielding commitment to excellence. Having watched Team USA perform in two back-to-back Games under challenging conditions, we have once again seen what we’ve always known to be true: Team USA’s resilience will not waiver, no matter the circumstances.
After a year of great perseverance and even greater achievement, we continue to look ahead and take steps toward achieving our vision.
Today, we are positioned to continue to move onward together, better than ever.
