Athlete Excellence
In 2024, Team USA delivered competitive excellence in full force at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, powered by the USOPC’s commitment to holistic care for athletes. Few moments captured that spirit more than Ilona Maher and the U.S. Women’s Rugby team clinching a historic bronze medal in the final minute of play – the first Olympic medal ever for U.S. Women’s Rugby. On and off the field, Ilona emerged as a breakout star and a fearless advocate for mental health, body positivity and inclusion. Her voice resonated far beyond the Games, reinforcing the importance of athlete well-being as a cornerstone of performance. Ilona’s story is one of many that reflects a deeper truth: when athletes trust their support system, they perform at their best. In 2024, 83% of athletes said they valued the resources the USOPC provides, with mental health services leading the way. What follows is a closer look at the USOPC’s commitment to athlete excellence, including the intersection of well-being and performance for Team USA.
