Team USA Performance

Athlete Experience
  • From buzzer-beaters to barrier-breakers, Team USA athletes delivered unforgettable performances across the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, dominating leaderboards and bringing home a total of 231 medals. At the heart of this excellence were standout performances from Team USA legends and rookies alike, including 384 Olympic and Paralympic athletes gracing the podium to represent the United States.

Among the many powerful performances was veteran leader Steve Serio, who helped power the U.S. Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team to a historic third consecutive Paralympic gold medal. With grit, precision and a deep sense of team pride, Serio and his teammates showed the world what relentless preparation and belief can achieve, becoming the first men’s team in program history to win three straight titles.

Stories like this defined Team USA’s unparalleled success. Across disciplines, U.S. athletes rose to the occasion, setting records, making history and elevating what it means to wear red, white and blue. Every podium finish, personal best and team breakthrough reflects years of investment, innovation and unwavering commitment to the pursuit of excellence.

“The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games were special for so many reasons. I am so incredibly proud of our team and the legacy we are creating. We couldn’t have done it without the support and belief from our communities on this journey. From training camps at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, individualized support from dieticians, strength and training and mental performance service providers, we came to Paris on top of our game both physically and mentally – and we did it.”

Performance Innovation#

  • Team USA’s pursuit of competitive excellence was powered by sport performance innovation. 59% of Olympic medals and 23% of Paralympic medals were won by athletes and teams who benefited from the Performance Innovation Fund and supported by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation. The fund advanced biomechanical analysis, enhanced decision-making through data and analytics and fostered collaboration across the Movement at the annual Performance Innovation Summit. The program also earned a nomination for the 2025 Sports Business Journal Award for Best in Athlete Performance Technology, acknowledging the impact of the groundbreaking Video Automatic Motion Analysis (VAMA) Project.

Performance Innovation

High-Performance Center

At Paris 2024, the USOPC established its High-Performance Center (HPC) for Team USA, open not only during the Olympic Games, but for the first time, through the Paralympic Games as well. The donor-supported facility was designed to mirror the quality and familiarity of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, offering elite recovery, nutrition, training and medical services in a Team USA-exclusive environment.

Over 260 Olympic athletes trained at the HPC, logging more than 2,000 visits across 15 sports. By the Games’ end, most athletes who trained at the HPC earned medals, including multiple golds. For Paralympians, the center marked a historic milestone by providing them dedicated services and space for the first time at a Games. According to post-Games survey data, the HPC was one of the most highly rated aspects of the athlete experience.

“The best part about this experience compared to my first three Games is having access to the High-Performance Center… We get this facility to ourselves, Team USA, which is amazing.”
