  • At Paris 2024, trust in the USOPC was built not just through achievement, but through personal connection. The Games served as a powerful platform for long-awaited moments of recognition, including the U.S. Figure Skating team’s medal allocation ceremony. Expanded anti-doping education and a growing “speak up” culture further demonstrated the USOPC’s commitment to integrity and athlete safety. The Team USA Athletes’ Commission also continued to play an essential role, amplifying athlete voices and advising on key issues such as well-being, safety and integrity across the Movement. Together, these efforts reflect a broader vision – one rooted in transparency, accountability and collaboration across the Olympic and Paralympic ecosystem.

That commitment was also on display at Team USA House in Paris, where the USOPC hosted a private roundtable with global sport leaders, diplomats, donors and commercial partners for a forward-looking discussion on the future of sport. This landmark event exemplified the USOPC’s role as a convening force and thought leader within the Movement. These represented just a fraction of the more than 1,200 domestic and international stakeholders engaged across the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games whose participation signaled growing alignment and a shared commitment to a fair and inclusive global sport system.

"Integrity and transparency sit at the core of sport culture. It is through these values that we ensure our community can trust we’re upholding the principles of fair play and respect both within and outside of the organization’s walls."

Safe, Fair and Clean Sport#

  • The USOPC is committed to upholding the integrity of competition across the Olympic and Paralympic ecosystem. Through collaboration with athletes, NGBs, international partners and anti-doping agencies, the USOPC works to ensure a safe, fair and level playing field. That commitment was on full display in Paris, where gold medal reallocations from the 2012 London Games honored Olympic hurdler Lashinda Demus and high jumper Erik Kynard, and the medal ceremony from the 2022 Beijing Games was finally held for the U.S. Figure Skating team, whose rightful gold medal achievements were recognized after years of advocating.

  • Medal Ceremony for U.S. Figure Skating

After a two-year wait, the U.S. Figure Skating team received their Olympic gold medals in a formal ceremony at Paris 2024. This long-overdue moment honored all nine athletes’ performances at the 2022 Beijing Games and with it, the integrity of sport.

  • Selection Procedures

Clear and fair team selection is a cornerstone of athlete trust. In 2024, the USOPC rebuilt the process to bring greater consistency and transparency, a direct response to athlete feedback. The effort included enhanced communication, education and direct engagement. For the first time, the USOPC surveyed all athletes who went through the selection process, gathering meaningful insights on fairness, clarity and transparency. The data will guide continued collaboration with NGBs to refine and improve the athlete selection experience across the Movement.

Ethics and Compliance#

  • The USOPC raised the bar on accountability and integrity across the Olympic and Paralympic Movement in 2024. The organization adopted its own Compliance Standards, formally holding itself to the same high expectations as NGBs. A new risk-based audit model was launched to zero in on high-priority concerns, improving oversight and efficiency. Updated NGB Compliance Standards and expanded use of the Compliance Scorecard helped drive governance reform and flag early risks, enabling more timely support and corrective action where needed. Together, these efforts advanced a more transparent, athlete-centered system and reinforced the USOPC’s role as a leader in ethical sport governance.

  • Athlete Resources

Team USA athletes have access to resources designed to empower them and protect their rights. This includes the Team USA Athlete Ombuds, a resource that provides confidential, independent advice to athletes navigating challenging situations. In 2024, the Athlete Ombuds had 880 cases, while the annual USOPC Athlete Listening Survey showed 68% of Team USA Athletes were aware of the Athlete Ombuds, and 34% of those individuals accessed the office for assistance. Additionally, the Athlete Ombuds Legal Aid Program granted $397K in aid and 462 hours of pro bono services to 42 qualifying athletes. Of those, 20 competed in Paris and brought home 12 medals. These services and resources help ensure that every athlete can thrive on and off the field of play.

  • Annual Certifications

Certifications are a cornerstone of accountability within the Olympic and Paralympic ecosystem. The USOPC works closely with NGBs to ensure they meet requirements set by the Ted Stevens Act, USOPC policies and bylaws and their own governance standards. Each NGB undergoes a comprehensive audit at least once every four years to evaluate compliance, with findings used to drive improvement and uphold the integrity of sport.
